Translacija | Traslación is a platform for production, exhibition and research on performance art founded in 2017 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, by the artists Tatiana Kocmur and Francisco Tomsich. It installed itself in the Slovenian art scene through the production of a cycle of performance art events carried out in March-June 2018 which ended with the first application of a model of artistic research focused on narratives and memories of the audience attending performance art events from the past, entitled Rdeče niti (Red threads). In Rdeče niti‘s framework, different methods of artistic research, various artistic strategies and languages and diverse approaches to the questions of memory, body-based art and art history narratives are combined in order to create hybrid devices addressing the studied event, its audience, its persistence in time, the narratives about it and its actualization in the present. Accordingly, the exhibitions introducing the results of Rdeče niti‘s different explorations are done in places and venues strongly connected to the subject in question in each case. Rdeče niti‘s first research project was devoted to memories and narratives around Franc Purg’s performance Where is the line? (ŠKUC Gallery, Ljubljana, 1998) and the first results were exhibited at Rampa/Lab (Kapelica Gallery, Ljubljana, Slovenia, May-June 2018). The second application of Rdeče niti took upon Martina Bastarda’s TV-performance TV Auction (2003) and the results were exhibited at SCCA Ljubljana (October 2019). An updated retrospective exhibition on both projects (Rdeče niti) was produced in November/December 2021 at Salsaverde gallery (Izola, Slovenia). Translacija | Traslación is also featured on Matías Zemljič’s short film All butchers come from Celje (see also below), which documents one of the red threads followed by the artists in 2018 while studying Franc Purg’s performance Where is the line. In November 2023, Translacija | Traslación introduced to the public the preliminary results of an on-going research on performance art stories and narratives in the framework of the artists’ collective Cirkulacija 2 (Ljubljana). The exhibition Rdeče niti #Ĉirkulacija 2 was on view from 17 till 24.11 at Cirkulacija 2’s headquarters in Ljubljana.
